✅ A Level Maths Parent Support Checklist
Use this checklist to make sure your child has the right habits, structure and support in place for success at A Level Maths.
📅 Weekly Routine
⬜ My child has at least 4–5 scheduled maths study sessions per week
⬜ Sessions are short and focused (30–60 minutes, not exhausting marathons)
⬜ Maths practice is spread across the week — not crammed into one day
⬜ Schoolwork, revision and exam practice are separate activities
✍️ Active Study (Not Just Watching Videos)
⬜ My child regularly writes full solutions by hand or on a tablet
⬜ They attempt questions before checking answers
⬜ They correct mistakes properly, not just note the answer
⬜ They practise exam-style questions under timed conditions
📚 Resources in Use
⬜ They use school materials and textbooks
⬜ They practise on at least one exam-question platform, such as:
- https://alevelmathsrevision.com/ust (highly recommended)
https://www.madasmaths.com
⬜ They use https://www.desmos.com for graphing and visual understanding
⬜ They are not jumping randomly between too many different resources
🧠 Understanding & Confidence
⬜ My child can usually explain what they learned this week
⬜ They ask for help when they feel stuck
⬜ They are not avoiding difficult topics (e.g. calculus, proof, mechanics)
⬜ Their confidence is generally stable, not collapsing after one bad test
📝 Exam Preparation
⬜ They are completing regular exam-style questions
⬜ They practise entire A Level questions, not just short textbook exercises
⬜ They are developing speed as well as accuracy
⬜ They review exam feedback and errors, not just scores
⚠️ Early Warning Signs to Watch For
⬜ Avoiding maths completely
⬜ Panic before tests
⬜ Falling behind on homework
⬜ Saying “I just don’t get any of it anymore”
⬜ Sudden confidence drop
⬜ Late-night cramming
If two or more of these appear regularly, early support is strongly advisable.
🤝 Support Outside School
⬜ My child has someone they can ask for help quickly (teacher, tutor, study partner)
⬜ They receive regular feedback on how they’re doing
⬜ They are not trying to solve everything alone
⬜ Extra support is in place before panic sets in
💤 Lifestyle & Wellbeing
⬜ They get enough sleep during the week
⬜ They take breaks from screens
⬜ They have downtime that isn’t guilty revision
⬜ Stress is being managed, not ignored
✅ If Most Boxes Are Ticked…
Your child is in a strong position for A Level Maths success.
⚠️ If Many Are Unticked…
Early action now can prevent:
Loss of confidence
Falling behind
Year-13 panic
Grade underperformance
Final Word on Extra Support
If you feel that your child would benefit from additional guidance, structured feedback or renewed confidence, high-quality A Level Maths tuition can make a transformational difference — especially when introduced early rather than as a last-minute rescue. Even a short period of targeted support can stabilise understanding, sharpen exam technique and remove the stress that builds when students feel stuck.
If you would like to explore whether one-to-one tuition could help your child move forward with confidence, you are very welcome to get in touch to discuss their situation and next steps.
